Eritrea Red Sea Boys hold Zanzibar Heroes

The 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup registered its first stalemate as Zanzibar and Eritrea played out a goalless draw at Namboole on Monday.

The result leaves the Zanzibari Heroes and the Red Sea Boys on one point apiece. The other Group B match between Rwanda and Malawi was a late kick off.

Both teams will have themselves to blame as they wasted chance after chance in either half.

Second half substitute Saif Rashid Abdalla was one of the most culpable, breaking down the left with the ball in within his reach but Eritrea goalkeeper Samuel Alazar was quick off his line to collect it to safety.

While Zanzibar had a lion’s share of possession, Eritrea enjoyed a spell of their own midway the second half with Suleyman Kassim doing the craft down the left but Saif Rashid’s header from close range just went wide.

It was end to end stuff at this moment, Zanzibar breaking the other end and Medhanie Redie's rasping goal-bound shot being stopped by the body of Saif Rashid, who had to stay down for a moment to cool.

Zanzibar did have the ball in the net on 79 minutes but Jakuloma Jaku used his hand to send it in, earning a booking from the whistle man. They huffed and puffed but it was all worth one point in the end.
